Isabella Benshimol Toro

1994 Caracas, Venezuela. Lives and works in London.
Benshimol’s practice arises from the navigation into interiority and intimacy, diving into everyday domestic environments and routines, in which she instinctively examines rudimentary interior bodily processes. Throughout the process of making sculptures, installations and videos, she explores places beyond the boundaries of language, seduced by the visceral essence of the uncontainable. Benshimol perceives the body as a mysterious site and reconsiders the conceptual transcendence of the permeability and porosity of our tissue. Dazzled by the everyday and the rawness of its moments of obstruction and restraint, that subsequently erupt as formless and colourless autonomic reactions. Without being aware, Benshimol seduces us into an uncanny yet carelessly familiar rebellion. An in-between emulsive realm that unconsciously invites us to revise the uncontrollability of the body and the self, questioning its containing structures and boundaries. Seemingly, as solidified layers that are simultaneously within us and surrounded by us.
