1994 Caracas, Venezuela. Lives and works in London.
Benshimol’s practice arises from the process of navigation into interiority and intimacy. Through sculptures, installations and videos she explores places beyond the boundaries of language, seduced by the uncontrollability of the process of making and the nature of mundane domestic routines. By exploring her intimate relation with viscerality, she perceives the body as a site and questions its structures, layers and materialities. Dazzled by the rawness of its moments of obstruction and restraint, and the autonomic reactions and affects they inescapably erupt. She reconsiders the permeability and porosity of what we are made of as a possibility for in-betweenness. A fruitful land where tangibility and affectivity, purity and dirtiness melt together into the dampness of an animate alliance.
